We might believe that once we've achieved our dreams, we'll be content and in the best place of our lives forever. However, that notion is, in reality, a bit of a fool's way of thinking.  

 

Sure, when you finally accomplish a long-cherished goal, you'll experience a surge of happiness – a short-lived dopamine hit that can last for a few days, maybe even weeks. But as humans, we're wired to aspire for more. It's the reason why we set new goals and keep pushing ourselves to reach even greater heights.  

 

So, what's the key takeaway here? It's this: don't put too much pressure on yourself to make those goals the sole focus of your happiness. Understand that the journey towards achieving your athletic dreams should be the most gratifying part, not the end result. Why, you ask? Well, because if your happiness hinges entirely on reaching that one goal, you might not like what you find when you finally get there.  

 

The truth is, your happiness should be woven into the very fabric of your daily pursuit of greatness. It should be a constant companion on your journey, not a destination that only comes into view when you reach your goal. When you can find joy in the process, the end goal becomes almost secondary. After all, if you're relying on a single achievement to turn your miserable self into a happy one, the odds are you won't be as content as you'd hoped when you do reach that pinnacle.  

 

So, how can you ensure that your athletic journey is one filled with happiness and fulfillment? It's all about enjoying the hard work, the dedication to your discipline, the personal growth, and the people you meet along the way. Embrace the process of becoming better, both as an athlete and as an individual.  

 

And when you do reach your goals, by all means, celebrate your achievements – give yourself a day of well-deserved recognition. But remember that it's not the end; it's merely a stepping stone to the next goal. This continuous cycle of setting, working towards, and achieving goals is what makes us better individuals. It's the never-ending quest for improvement and happiness that keeps us motivated and inspired. 

 

 In essence, the journey is where the magic happens. Cherish it, savour it, and make it the cornerstone of your athletic experience. Because in the end, it's the journey that shapes you into the athlete and person you aspire to be.

 

I Get To Do This

As my season came to an end with our team missing the playoffs, and as I found myself grappling with injuries, it led me to ponder a profound realization – I GET TO DO THIS. Playing professional sports, especially for your hometown team, comes with an immense amount of pressure. But if you allow this pressure to consume you, it can drive you to the brink of insanity.  

 

So, in those moments when the weight of expectations feels crushing, I always remind myself, "I GET TO DO THIS." I'm doing something that people all over the world dream of, and I'm living that dream right now. I chose this path, worked relentlessly to reach this point, and I'm here for a reason. I get to do this because it can be taken away from me in the blink of an eye. 

 

 Football is a game that stirs up emotions that are challenging to explain until you've experienced them firsthand. It's in those post-game conversations with your teammates, reminiscing about the incredible moments on the field, that you truly understand the magic of football. And when your football journey eventually comes to an end, you won't ever feel these same emotions again.  

 

So, my advice to all fellow athletes is this: embrace every moment of it, including the butterflies, nerves, and uncertainties. These feelings are your body's way of telling you that you're about to step into the arena, ready to face the challenge.  

 

On game days, it's easy to become overwhelmed with thoughts. Your friends and family are there to support you, people are texting you, asking if you're ready, and the natural pressures of those who love you surround you. But try to relish it! This moment means a lot to your loved ones as well. It's their game day to – they've been there, supporting you, and now they get to witness you play in the big leagues.  

 

There's no secret to completely eliminating pre-game nerves – you're going to feel them. However, you can learn to cope with them and, more importantly, learn to enjoy the process. Love what you do and savour every moment of it. After all, it's the journey that shapes you, not just as an athlete but as a person. And remember, "I GET TO DO THIS" is a reminder that can turn anxiety into excitement, and doubt into determination.
